Libby Rockaway, author of Puppy Steps, also trains Diabetic Alert Dogs (DADs). In May 2017, a 14 month old DAD will be available, named “Liberty Belle”. Currently she is 7 months old and is in training with Libby in Philadelphia, PA. She is excellent at public access - Libby attends the University of Pennsylvania and Liberty hasn’t missed a class all semester 🙂 . She is doing very well at live low alerts (under 80) and is beginning to be introduced to highs (above 180). Her alert behavior is pawing her handler's leg. She is a perfect city dog – she lives with Libby in a sorority house without a yard and is a Comfort Retriever (miniature Golden Retriever), so she will mature to be only about 25 pounds. She has a health guarantee until 24 months of age. Throughout the next few months, Libby will be looking to find the perfect person to place her with. Ideally the placement family would live near Philadelphia and is willing to have the transition training take place over many months for the benefit of both Liberty and the handler.
